ASQA's approach to course accreditation
ASQA complies with the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 in carrying out its course accreditation functions.
Responsive and thorough assessment
ASQA is committed to providing timely and responsive services to VET sector stakeholders. ASQA ensures course accreditation applicants are kept informed throughout the accreditation process.
Applications for course accreditation are thoroughly assessed for compliance with the Standards for VET Accredited Courses 2012 and the Australian Qualifications Framework.
ASQA will only accredit a course if satisfied that the need for the course exists and that course outcomes do not duplicate endorsed Training Package outcomes.
Clarity of role and independence
ASQA engages with course developers and/or course owners during the assessment process. However, as an independent statutory authority, ASQA does not provide consultancy services. As the regulator, ASQA cannot teach applicants specifically how to comply with the standards.
Transparency and continuous improvement
ASQA's course accreditation processes are published and all accreditation activities are conducted in a transparent manner.
ASQA monitors the effectiveness, efficiency and consistency of its course accreditation processes through annual accreditation surveys, client feedback, and internal continuous improvement processes. The information gathered through these monitoring activities is used to inform ASQA's strategies for improvement.
