Changes to eligibility for student payments apply as of 1 January 2018

11 January 2018

The Australian Government Department of Social Services is seeking to remind providers that as of 1 January 2018, eligibility for student payments has been restricted to those VET courses (at diploma level and above) and education providers that are approved for VET Student Loans (VSL).

This measure affects students who receive:

  • Youth Allowance (student)
  • Austudy
  • ABSTUDY, and
  • Pensioner Education Supplement.

Students are not required to apply for a VSL in order to receive their student payment.

Providers should visit the Department of Social Services website for more information.
