Don’t risk your registration—Submit your renewal application at least 90 days before the end of your registration period

ASQA has recently noted a concerning number of providers are not submitting their applications to renew registration at least 90 days before their registration expiry date. In some cases, providers have allowed their registration to expire before then seeking to submit a renewal application to ASQA.

While ASQA sends reminders about registration expiry to listed CEOs and PEOs, it is an essential responsibility of registration to be aware of when your registration period expires and ensure that you submit a renewal application at least 90 days before this date.

You must apply to renew your RTO registration, and pay the application lodgement fee, at least 90 days before your registration is due to expire.

What happens if I don’t submit my application before the 90-day deadline?

If you do not submit your renewal application and pay the applicable fees before the 90-day deadline, in most cases ASQA will not allow you to submit a late application.

ASQA’s online registration system, asqanet, disables a provider’s ability to submit a renewal application once it passes the 90-day application timeframe.

In exceptional circumstances, you may ask ASQA to consider allowing a late submission of a renewal application. However, ASQA may not agree that exceptional circumstances apply. For example, providers that do not maintain up-to-date registration contacts or anticipate the impact of staff leave would not be considered to be affected by ‘exceptional circumstances’.

What happens if I don’t submit my application until after my registration has expired?

If a provider’s registration has passed its expiry date, it cannot be renewed (unless a renewal application had been submitted and paid prior to the expiry date).

ASQA has no discretion to accept the submission of a renewal application after expiry, whether or not exceptional circumstances apply.

If your registration expires, you will be required to cease marketing or operating as an RTO immediately. In this case, before you can recommence marketing or operating as an RTO, you must apply for initial registration and ASQA must grant that application.
