ASQA cancels qualifications issued by Premier Training Institute

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) will cancel 432 security and first aid qualifications and statements of attainment issued to 276 individuals by the now deregistered training provider, Premier Training Institute Pty Ltd.

ASQA announced in November 2017 that it intended to cancel these qualifications and statements of attainment because its regulatory activity had indicated the learners had not been properly trained and assessed.

Affected learners were given an opportunity to provide ASQA with evidence of why their qualification and/or statements of attainment should not be cancelled. ASQA has now considered all of the individual responses it has received.

This behaviour is not the typical ‘non-compliance’ detected by ASQA during its regulatory work, where training organisations are providing training and assessment but are not fully meeting their regulatory obligations.

The strong regulatory action being taken by ASQA against Premier Training Institute is based on evidence of the training provider’s critical non-compliance with the national training standards, as well as evidence that the provider was issuing qualifications and statements of attainment without providing legitimate training.

ASQA is contacting all affected former students to advise of its decision. Individuals who still want to obtain a license to work in the security industry will have to regain their qualification through a different registered training provider.

Any student who disagrees with the decision to cancel their qualification may apply to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (the AAT) for a review of the decision within 28 days of receiving notification of ASQA’s decision. Any application to the AAT must be submitted in writing using the forms available from the AAT Registry in the relevant capital city, or from the AAT website at www.aat.gov.au.
