ASQA suspends 10 qualifications at TAFE SA

The Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) has suspended 10 qualifications from the scope of registration of TAFE SA (RTO number 41026).

TAFE SA was subject to routine regulatory scrutiny in May 2017 which identified some non-compliance with the requirements of the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Quality Framework.

As a result, in September the training provider was issued with a notice of intention to remove or suspend a total of 16 qualifications from its scope of registration.

ASQA considered the response provided by TAFE SA to the notice of intention, however it did not address all of the non-compliances identified. On Monday, 4 December ASQA formally advised TAFE SA of its decision to suspend 10 qualifications from its scope of registration as a provider of vocational education and training.

The suspended qualifications are:

AUR32416 Certificate III in Automotive Refinishing Technology
AUR30816 Certificate III in Motorcycle Mechanical Technology
AMP20316 Certificate ll in Meat Processing (Abattoirs)
SIT30816 Certificate III in Commercial Cookery
CHC33015 Certificate III in Individualised Support.
CHC43415 Certificate IV in Leisure and Health
SHB30416 Certificate III in Hairdressing
SIR50212 Diploma of Visual Merchandising
CPC50210 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
CPC32413 Certificate III in Plumbing.

TAFE SA was also directed to rectify minor non-compliances in the UEE42711 Certificate IV in Air−conditioning and Refrigeration Servicing and 52689WA Certificate IV in Preparation for Nursing Education qualifications within 20 working days.

ASQA’s decisions will come into effect on 23 January 2018 unless TAFE SA utilises the review avenues available to it. These mechanisms include an internal reconsideration of the decision by ASQA or an external review by the Administrative Appeals Tribunal. TAFE SA can also seek a reassessment of the suspension at any time once it has taken steps to remedy the non-compliance identified.

ASQA will not be taking steps to cancel any qualifications issued by TAFE SA. ASQA is working with TAFE SA on the reassessment of students impacted by the decision.

ASQA has advised TAFE SA of its intention to undertake another compliance monitoring audit of its training and assessment within 12 months. This is expected to occur in the first quarter of 2018.
