Renewing RTO registration
The renewal application is available in the asqanet portal 12 months prior to your registration expiry date.
Please note that you can apply any time up to 90 days prior to expiry – after which the application to renew will be closed.
Renewal within 90 days of expiry is only possible by express approval.
You need to seek ASQA's approval to allow a shorter period by completing and submitting a request form. The request form should be submitted as soon as you are aware you will be unable to submit your renewal application on time. ASQA has a discretion as whether to allow a provider to submit a late renewal application and may not grant your request.
Two renewal applications must be submitted if you hold both NVR (VET) and ESOS (CRICOS) registration – even if both registrations have the same registration end date.
A unique application will be made available in the asqanet portal for each registration 12 months prior to each registration expiry date.
Please refer to our Guide to current ASQA fees and charges.
Renewal applications are only available in asqanet.
All providers are required to submit:
- a current and historic ASIC report (issued within the last 6 months)
- a current Fit and Proper Person Declarations (completed within the last 6 months).
The application may also require that you submit:
- a Delivery Activity Data Summary (found in the application on asqanet)
- written agreements for course copyright permissions.
Please note that the Financial Viability Risk Assessment (FVRA) and Self-Assessment are not required for renewal.
You may be asked to provide additional evidence or documents not listed here.
You need to provide an ASIC report for both organisations for us to process your renewal application.
Yes. Information should be consistent across your evidence documents.
If you no longer wish to operate as a registered training organisation, you must apply to withdraw your registration.
Until we have approved withdrawal, you remain registered and are required to meet your ongoing provider obligations.

It’s important that your renewal is submitted regardless of any outstanding notifications.
If an outstanding notification means you can’t attach required evidence (e.g. a person has been removed from the ownership structure and therefore no fit and proper person form can be attached), simply attach a copy of the material change summary or a document stating the material change application number to allow the form to progress.
An assessment officer may contact you directly for further information.
ASQA completes the majority of Applications to renew RTO registration within six months.
We will ensure your registration remains current until your application has been finalised. The registration status on the national register (training.gov.au) will become ‘Current – Re-registration Pending’.
The listed expiry date will remain unchanged while in this state as it reflects the approved date for the most recent period of registration.
Yes. As your registration continues during this period, there are no restrictions on trading as normal.
Yes. Your registration continues during this period, so you are still required to comply with all your obligations, including the obligation to pay your annual registration charge.
Yes. As your registration is taken to continue during this period, there are no restrictions on enrolling students for future commencement.
If we identify non-compliance during the performance assessment, you will have 20 working days to provide evidence demonstrating actions taken to achieve full compliance. We will analyse this evidence before making a final decision on whether or not to approve the application.
The assessing performance process may also result in your organisation being registered to provide training for specific products while being rejected for others. We may also impose conditions on your registration.
A decision to approve renewal is a reviewable decision under the NVR Act – if you are happy with the outcome of a decision, you do not need to exercise the review option.
The appeal function is automatically visible regardless of your application outcome. The option to appeal will be automatically removed from your dashboard after 30 calendar days.
If your application is approved following a risk assessment (e.g. without an audit), ASQA will update the information in asqanet within 1-2 working days.
If your application progresses to review activity or performance assessment, once the activity is complete, your performance monitoring officer prepares a report.
Once the report is completed, ASQA delegates will then decide your application based on the report’s recommendations.
Once your application is finalised, you will be notified in writing and provided with a copy of the performance assessment report. If your application is approved following a review activity or performance assessment (audit), the relevant information in training.gov.au will usually be updated within 10 working days of the date your application is finalised.
When your expiry date is updated on training.gov.au, if your current expiry date is in the future, the new expiry date will not appear in the ‘current’ section of training.gov.au. You will need to select ‘View History’ to view all registration periods, past, current and future.
