Quality indicator reporting
Providers are required to submit their data for each calendar year by 30 June of the year following.
To submit your QI summary report by 30 June, complete the summary report using the Quality indicator webform.
Please note ASQA is no longer accepting completed quality indicator summary reports by email. All submissions must be made using the online form.
You must submit your quality indicator data reports for the previous calendar year (1 January to 31 December) in full by close of business 30 June each year.
No – RTOs can use any format to disseminate the surveys (such as Survey Monkey). However the content of the survey cannot be changed.
No – once the surveys have been returned, the RTO collates and analyses the information and reports these results to ASQA using the Quality Indicator annual summary report template (DOC).
In 2021, the following exemptions apply to quality indicator data reporting obligations:
- Your RTO was granted initial registration (either by ASQA or another registering body) after 30 June 2020, or
- Your RTO did not provide any nationally recognised training or assessment services during the calendar year 2020 and you reported a Nil AVETMISS return for 2020.
You are exempt from submitting a quality indicator data report if:
- your RTO was granted initial registration either by ASQA or another registering body after 30 June 2022, or
- your RTO did not provide any nationally recognised training or assessment services through the calendar year 2022 and you reported a AVETMISS Nil return for 2022.
The target population does not necessarily include all learners at the RTO. Certain learners may be deliberately excluded from the learner survey. Others may be excluded accidentally, although efforts should be made to minimise the extent to which this occurs.
Each learner should only receive one survey in any particular survey administration. Depending on the source of the population information, this may require the deletion of duplicate records.
The identification of target employers in the context of an enterprise RTO may be best managed by the training manager. Where an RTO trains learners who work in a franchise business, the appropriate point of contact may be a central human resources manager, a store manager or a direct supervisor.
Where learners are currently self-employed or the majority become self-employed upon completion of training, it may be that learners and employers are in fact the same people, and it is therefore not sensible to administer the employer survey.
If graduates from your organisation are mostly or entirely self-employed you should inform ASQA of this when submitting your quality indicator data.
The survey is not dependent on citizenship and is inclusive of AQF qualifications, units of competency and accredited short courses. The target population for the learner survey is defined as:
all learners enrolled in nationally recognised training where the training is being delivered by an Australian RTO, either in Australia or overseas.
In general, the target population for the employer survey is defined as:
all employers of learners who are enrolled in nationally recognised training where the training is being delivered by an Australian RTO, either in Australia or overseas.
As such, employers may have directly purchased training for their employees, may have employer graduates from the RTO, or may be supervising employees in the workplace.
