Update—Implementation of the infection control training skill sets

On 9 June 2020, ASQA published information about a new unit of competency and related skill sets for infection control training from the HLT Training Package that had been endorsed by the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 2 July 2020, the AISC endorsed a second unit of competency and skill set, from the BSB Training Package, to further support industry during the pandemic.

To guide providers to understand the difference between each training product, and identify the most suitable product to deliver to a learner cohort, ASQA provides the following information:

HLTINFCOV001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures	This unit applies to individuals working in retail, transport and logistics, or food handling contexts	Assessment of skills must be demonstrated, at least in part, in a retail, transport and logistics, or food handling workplace RTOs must use the contextualisation advice approved by the AISC to deliver the unit
BSBWHS332X Apply infection prevention and control procedures to own work activities	This unit applies to individuals working, or seeking employment, in any workplace. The AISC has approved contextualisation advice for 31 industry areas to assist RTOs in developing resources for specific workplace environments.	Assessment of skills can be demonstrated in a workplace or appropriately simulated environment RTOs may use the contextualisation advice approved by the AISC, for 31 industry areas, to deliver the unit This unit is also a named elective unit within the BSB30115 Certificate III in Business and BSB30719 Certificate III in Work Health and Safety qualifications
