Extended transition period: CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support specialisations

16 October 2020

The Ageing and Disability specialisations of the Certificate III in Individual Support have been updated to include HLTINF001 Comply with infection prevention and control policies and procedures as a required unit in Release 4 of the qualification.

The update has been agreed to by the Australian Industry Skills Committee (AISC) Emergency Response Sub-Committee as an extraordinary minor change to the qualification. This is to strengthen the quality of infection control training in the ageing and disability sectors, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the qualification is not superseded, no transition period applies under the Standards for RTOs 2015. All RTOs that deliver Certificate III in Individual Support have been required to deliver Release 4 of the qualification since its publication to the national register on 9 September 2020.

Given the significant nature of the change and the critical skills need it addresses, the AISC Emergency Response Sub-Committee has stated that students who were enrolled prior to the release and who may be otherwise be disadvantaged may access an extraordinary transition period. This transition period applies to learners who were enrolled prior to 9 September 2020 and allows them to graduate under the Release 3 packaging rules until 28 February 2021.

While this extraordinary transition period will allow learners who are close to completion to graduate without disadvantage, all students are strongly encouraged to complete the additional unit where possible.
