Change legal or business name
You need to tell us about changes to your legal or business name(s).
Your legal name, or legal entity name:
- is the name of your organisation that appears on all official documents or legal papers
- may be different to your trading name.
Your business or trading name is simply a name under which you conduct a business. A legal entity may have several business names.
Changes to legal name
You can change your legal name at any time, as long as your ABN (and in the case of a company, your ACN) stays the same.
Changes to business name
You can add or remove business names at any time, provided they are linked to your legal name on the Australian Business Register.
Notifying ASQA of these changes
To change your legal name, Complete the ‘Notification of material change or event’ form in asqanet. Select the ‘Change to legal (not legal entity)’ option in the form.
Business names are automatically downloaded into asqanet from the Australian Business Register each night. To choose the names you want to display on the National Register select ‘Manage business names’ under the Organisation menu in asqanet.
You need to tell us about changes to your legal name as soon as possible.
