Unique student identifier
Unless exempt, from 1 January 2015, your RTO may only issue a qualification or statement of attainment to a learner:
- after that learner has provided you with a verified USI, or
- after your RTO has applied for a USI on the learner’s behalf.
Most student management systems are able to create and verify USIs automatically.
To avoid any delays in issuing certification documentation, ensure that you apply for or verify the learner’s USI at the time of enrolment.
In accordance with the Student Identifiers Act 2014, RTOs must not include the learner’s unique student identifier on the testamur.
Responsibility for the USI lies with the USI Office, part of the Australian Government Department of Industry.
The USI Office is assisting training organisations, students, parents and others with the implementation of the USI through a range of information and communication products in both online and ready-to-print formats.
How to access the USI Registry System
Further questions relating to the USI should be directed to the USI Office in the Department of Industry by calling 13 38 73 or emailing usi@industry.gov.au.
